BOMBIN' Magazine Interview - Cops Hate Me Sneaker
Hey RYZites,
I have a special gem for you today, last night I made a call to BOMBIN’ Magazine and they were generous enough to let me interview them regarding the release of their shoe “Cops Hate Me”. These guys are very funny and can be at times, crass so readers be warned!
ltg: Ok enough of the pleasantries lets get down to business, tell us about your background . . .how is it you have the “in” on graffiti culture?
Bobby: I wouldn't say we have an "in" in graffiti culture. In fact, if the authorities are reading this...and we know you are you little buggers, BOMBIN' Magazine knows of no graffiti artists. In fact, as a whole, we believe that graffiti doesn't exist.
Craig: In fact, we wish the police would release the hostages they have taken in the war against self-expression. We only know individuals who are the tools of the unconscious desires of the populace. We wish the police would release those they are unconstitutionally holding for their freedom of speech and their non-violent protests against the status quo of corporate ad dominated world wall space.
Bobby: Shouts to TVP, RATTFISH, BFR CREW and the rest of Coney Island Massive. Together Forever. Decepts! and whatever Craig said.
ltg: How did the idea for BOMBIN' Mag develop?
Brian: BOMBIN' Magazine developed in order to create a high quality, New York City based answer to the European graff rags that were dominating the marketplace.
Craig: BOMBIN' Magazine strives to be the Rolling Stone of graffiti culture, describing the ideology, politics and mindset of a movement from within that movement. And, we do so all against the constant harassment of the Vandal Squad.
ltg: Speaking of the Vandal Squad, tell us about the Cops Hate Me slogan. What's that about?
Bobby: Isn't it simple? Cops hate you too!
Craig: At the very heart, BOMBIN' Magazine is a quarterly publication complete with terrific photography (Thank you Ryan Miller and H.A. Pearson), insightful writing and excellent journalism.
Bobby: Not to mention pretty pictures.
Craig: And, pretty pictures. Yet, we find ourselves under attack by the police, and their henchmen.
Bobby: Plus, that little troll Peter Vallone. Cops, particularly in New York City, are bullies who have allowed the failure of the Justice System to punish them for their abuses and this has escalated into a near bar-room brawl of bravado and unchecked aggression.
Craig: BOMBIN' Magazine would like to thank RYZ for the opportunity for all graffiti artists to express their creativity in a way that is...as of now...legal.
Bobby: AMADOU! SEAN BELL!
ltg: On behalf of RYZ, you're welcome. We are stoked to give all artists another canvas and a platform to display it. Ok now on to your shoe . . . tell us what's going on here, any influences while designing this?
Brian: Scott Brown, one of the magazine's founders and our Graphic Design Director created this shoe in cooperation with SOLAR, a Danish artist and BASE MPH, a New York native. It is drawn from all too common nightmare experienced by graffiti artists. BOMBIN' Magazine has a line of shirts that say, quite simply, COPS HATE ME and this sneaker is the extension of that concept.
ltg: Right on well we here at RYZ love the design and can’t wait to rock ‘em. So what can we expect to see next from BOMBIN'?
Bobby: I will be taking Quakerninja's girlfriend on a date to Chuck E. Cheese where I will impress her with my tambourine playing skills.
ltg: HA Oh snap! I don’t think Quakerninja will be taking too kindly to that comment!
Brian: We are hosting the END OF THE LINE party in Coney Island on September 7th, complete with breakdance crews from around the country, hip-hop performances and, of course, a live painting demonstration.
ltg: That sounds like it’s going to be sick.
Craig: Also, please pick up Issue 3 (it is the one with the naked girl on the cover) at your local Barnes & Noble now. That issue features Jahmal Williams, FARO ADHD, MED and others. Also, issue 4, the International Assholes issue will be out in October. We have some great interviews with Bangledesh, DJ Cannon, Bob Burnquist and the infamous CES.
ltg: Who is your daddy and what does he do??
Bobby: LTG is my daddy. She might look pretty but she has one giant, Jewish salami.
ltg: HEY . . .
Craig: Bobby Fisher is just kidding. He meant to say something nice and sentimental about his father. Sam Dershowitz. I miss you. Tell G-d I said hola.
Bobby: Whatever, man. I'm my own daddy, that is why I know I am a bastard.
ltg: Whatever that wasn’t a real question I just think Kindergarten Cop is funny. Um ok shout outs? Props? Any last words to the peoples . . .
Bobby: Taylor, Scott, Paulie, AEGirl, My Monster, Flashbang, Marianne Pane, Eliana, HAHA, Skinny Britches, The Champ, Dr. Suny Eastcoast, GIDGET, MPH. DBK All Day. 113. SMART CREW. ACC. ADHD. Blockwork. TVP Forever, TF, Michael De Feo, CULT CULT CULT, Alphabet Soup - yum! RESKEW ACC MBK, HERMLIFE! ELBOWTOE, GAIA, BLAS Ya Boy B, NEMZ - FUCK YOUR LYFE CREW, and Ian Reid. And, your mother.
ltg: Ok well that’s all the time we have, thanks BOMBIN’ Magazine and to all you reading this get your pair of “COPS HATE ME” here.
